The Marsden/Gustafson Gallery at FilmNorth is a creative space that honors and celebrates the legacy of photographers Ann Marsden and Gus Gustafson by bringing diverse communities together and connecting artists across disciplines. With a focus on regionally-based artists whose work explores the intersection of moving image and photography, the Marsden/Gustafson Gallery is a forward-thinking space that puts into motion the adventurous spirits of Ann and Gus, welcomes experimentation, and encourages unique collaborations.
GUIDELINES
Who can apply: Any artists and/or curators—members and non-members alike—are encouraged to submit a proposal for a future solo or group exhibition at FilmNorth. FilmNorth considers all types of styles and subject matter for exhibition. We encourage collaboration and will consider alternative presentations and installations.
Exhibition curation: FilmNorth encourages artists to consider partnering with a curator for their exhibition proposal. Curators provide meaningful insight into content, sequencing, storytelling, etc. and can also provide thoughtful context to an exhibition via written materials.
Exhibition length: FilmNorth considers exhibitions of all lengths, generally encouraging shows to run between 2-3 months and not less than 3 weeks.
Presentation: FilmNorth considers all types of hanging/framing styles. It is preferred that work be exhibition-ready (i.e. already framed, mounted, etc.).
Commission: It is the artist’s decision whether artwork will be offered for sale. If artwork is sold during the exhibition, FilmNorth will receive a 40% commission (not to exceed $500 per piece).
