Visual Storytelling, Storyboard & Animatic

Starts April 13

2 sessions: Saturday–Sunday, April 13-14, 10 am–4 pm

This workshop is aimed at writers, directors, photographers, animators, game designers, and art directors, and provides an understanding of visual structure in the context of storytelling. With no drawing skills required, students learn and practice the principles and techniques of visual storytelling as applied to storyboard for filmmaking, animation, commercials, and video games. Participants are encouraged to storyboard a portion of their own scripts (two pages or less). Otherwise, a script will be provided. During the second session students will use Photoshop to create a short animatic video clip to provide a sense of the story’s pace and rhythm.

You’ll learn how to bring your audience right where you want emotionally as a director, ensure your film crew is on the same page, and draw talent and investors to your project. You can also anticipate and solve narrative problems, avoid misconception of ideas, save production time, and shoot for the best possible visual storytelling. Materials and iMacs provided. There is a lunch break each session.

Class Registration Guidelines & Cancellation Policy

  • Space is assigned on a first-come basis. Registrations must include payment in full. Registrations are accepted after registration deadlines if space is available.
  • If minimum enrollment has not been reached by 5 days prior to the start date of a class, FilmNorth may cancel it, in which case registrants will immediately be notified and receive a full refund within 5 business days. A check will be issued for registrations that were paid in cash. In lieu of a refund, students have the option of applying their tuition to another class in the same calendar year.
  • For those wishing to cancel a registration prior to the class registration deadline, 100% of the tuition will be refunded minus a $25 administrative fee. For registration cancellations received after the registration deadline but prior to the first class session, 50% of the tuition will be refunded minus a $25 administrative fee. As of a class start date, no refunds or credits/exchanges will be given.
  • Tuition is not prorated for missed class sessions.
