Visual Storytelling, Storyboard & Animatic

Starts February 10

2 sessions: Saturday–Sunday, February 10–11, 10 am–4 pm

This workshop is aimed at writers, directors, photographers, animators, game designers, and art directors, and provides an understanding of visual structure in the context of storytelling. With no drawing skills required, students learn and practice the principles and techniques of visual storytelling as applied to storyboard for filmmaking, animation, commercials, and video games. Students are encouraged to storyboard a portion of their own scripts (two pages or less). Otherwise, a script will be provided. During the second session students will use Photoshop to create a short animatic video clip to provide a sense of the story’s pace and rhythm.

You’ll learn how to bring your audience right where you want emotionally as a director, ensure your film crew is on the same page, and draw talent and investors to your project. You can also anticipate and solve narrative problems, avoid misconception of ideas, save production time, and shoot for the best possible visual storytelling. Materials and iMacs provided. There is a lunch break each session.

Tuition: $235 regular/$175 member/$130 low-income
