The Business of Filmmaking

The goal of this workshop is to give the emerging filmmaker a basic introduction to the business side of filmmaking and freelancing in the film industry. The workshop will cover the importance of leadership, planning and strategy, basic business plan and proposal writing, how to bill for your time, and how to set up your own business to minimize personal liability.

Tuition: $175 regular/$130 member/$100 low-income

Wayne Johnson head shotWayne Johnson has 17 years of filmmaking, multimedia, motion graphics, visual effects, and video production experience. Currently, he is a freelance producer, director, editor, and educator, working on video and film projects of various complexities including NBCUniversal’s E! Online.

Wayne has over 12 years’ experience leading a creative team as a producer and director. Overseeing, coaching, collaborating with, and managing visual effects artists, camera operators, production artists, art directors, set designers, make-up artists, actors, graphic designers, sound designers, animators, and writers. He has led creative teams on music videos, television commercials, short films, corporate video, and training videos as well as animation and motion graphics projects. Wayne was the VFX Producer on Shockwave Darkside where he oversaw the creation of over 1000 visual effects in 3D.

Class Registration Guidelines & Cancellation Policy

  • Space is assigned on a first-come basis. Registrations must include payment in full to be valid. Registrations are accepted beyond registration deadlines as long as space is available.
  • If minimum enrollment has not been reached by 5 days prior to the start date of a class, IFP MN may cancel it, in which case registrants will immediately be notified and receive a full refund by PayPal or charge card credit (for phone or in person credit card registrations) within 5 business days. A check will be issued for registrations that were paid in cash. In lieu of a refund, students have the option of applying their tuition to another course if scheduled in the same calendar year.
    For those wishing to cancel a registration prior to the class registration deadline, 100% of the tuition will be refunded minus a $15 administrative fee. For registration cancellations received after the registration deadline but prior to the first class session, 50% of the tuition will be refunded minus a $15 administrative fee. As of a class start date, no refunds or credits/exchanges will be given.
  • Tuition is not prorated for missed class sessions.
