Starts June 3
3 sessions: Wednesday, June 3, 6:30-9pm; Saturday, June 6, 9am-12pm; Wednesday, June 10, 6:30-9pm
A couple having a moment, only speaking with their eyes. A homeless person feeding their dog. A busy train station with one commuter who isn’t in a rush. These are scenes that could happen in front of us any day, and with a camera, the scenes can become street photography. Beyond photojournalism, street photography captures a moment and feeling forever frozen in time, and can be found right outside your front door.
This 3-session course is designed to help you determine what makes a great street scene and how to improve your skills and knowledge while you journey through the normal course of your day. The first class session covers street photography basics and reviews well-known street photographers’ work. The second session addresses why it’s important to always carry your camera, and includes a walkabout in Saint Paul’s historic Lowertown Arts District. The final session is a group review and critique of the images created during the second session.
All experience levels and camera types welcome. Sessions 1 and 3 meet at FilmNorth; session 2 meets at Black Dog Café, Lowertown St. Paul.
Tuition: $175 regular/$130 member/$100 low-income
