Moving Through the November Light
Starts November 3
4 sessions: Saturdays, November 3-December 1 (no class Nov 24), 12-4 pm
November holds the in-between. Between warmth and cold, between light and dark, between living and dying. The eleventh month, getting darker, getting colder, echoes our own eventual winding down and gives chance to live in the richest, deepest way. November opens a path to those deeper layers unavailable to us during the rest of the year. – Nina MacLaughlin, from The Paris Review
This course offers image-makers an experience beyond the classroom utilizing the unique light of November. Combining previously acquired knowledge with concentration on factors of composition, participants engage in weekly sessions that present different environments to utilize skills, problem solve, and discover new approaches to seeing in a collective learning environment. You’ll learn to create images in quick-thinking circumstances useful for travel, personal or commercial projects, and moving image work, fostering personal growth and increased confidence in your photographic vision. Coursework includes exercises in techniques for photographing strangers and applying cultural competency. Working knowledge of your camera required; format is optional. No phone cameras, please. The final class session will conclude with a viewing of one another’s work at the FilmNorth campus. Tuition includes access to FilmNorth’s digital darkroom (equipped with Photoshop and Lightroom CC for Mac) between class sessions.
Tuition: $270 regular/$205 member/$155 low-income
Now in her 20th year teaching FilmNorth classes and workshops, Deborah Meyer works in a field of creative practice interlinked with teaching photography and visual stylist application in commercial and art institutions. Her photographs have been exhibited locally and used for publication.
