Ever heard the saying “90% of directing is done in the casting”? It may seem easier to work with your friends, but is it the best choice for your film? However, if you’re going to cast experienced actors, how are you going to find them? This workshop will answer these questions and give experience to students by comparably casting and directing a scene with both non-actors and experienced actors to examine the final results. You’ll learn various techniques for directing inexperienced actors as well as the details of executing a successful casting call.

Paul von Stoetzel is the proprietor of Killing Joke Films and has directed and/or adapted numerous award-winning plays and films in the Twin Cities, including his feature documentaries, SNUFF: A Documentary about Killing on Camera, and Scrap, which both gained major North American distribution. He has produced and/or directed over twenty short films and music videos in or around the Twin Cities. His most recent short films Pet Peeve and Your Blind Spot are currently traveling the film festival circuit while he’s in rehearsals for several local theatre projects.

Class Registration Guidelines & Cancellation Policy

• Space is assigned on a first-come basis. Registrations must include payment in full to be valid. Registrations are accepted beyond registration deadlines as long as space is available.
• If minimum enrollment has not been reached by 5 days prior to the start date of a class, IFP MN may cancel it, in which case registrants will immediately be notified and receive a full refund by PayPal or charge card credit (for phone or in person credit card registrations) within 5 business days. A check will be issued for registrations that were paid in cash. In lieu of a refund, students have the option of applying their tuition to another course if scheduled in the same calendar year.
  For those wishing to cancel a registration prior to the class registration deadline, 100% of the tuition will be refunded minus a $15 administrative fee. For registration cancellations received after the registration deadline but prior to the first class session, 50% of the tuition will be refunded minus a $15 administrative fee. As of a class start date, no refunds or credits/exchanges will be given.
