Designing Films for Sound
Starts October 21
1 session: Saturday, October 21, 10 am–6 pm
Though often described as a visual medium, cinema has always depended on sound. This workshop questions the assumption that film is or has ever been an art of images and is designed to improve your listening and conceptual approaches to designing films for sound. Students engage in a series of critical and creative exercises and complete a sound design project for a 3- to 5-minute scene or short film. Students may design sound for their own film or choose a scene from another to create the sound from the ground up.
Through our critical conversations, workshopping, and close listening, you’ll gain an appreciation for the complexity of issues raised by cinematic sound design in order to develop personal and innovative approaches to designing movies for sound. Students should have basic knowledge of Adobe Premiere. iMacs provided. There is a lunch break.
Tuition: $175 regular/$130 member/$100 low-income
