Bearing Witness: Composing Your Stories
Starts January 29
7 sessions: Mondays, January 29–March 12, 6:30–9 pm
Photographs can tell rich stories. Utilizing the Walker Art Center’s exhibition Adiós Utopia as a platform for developing visual literacy, this course will teach you to improve and expand your own composition techniques and make you a better storyteller with your camera. Class sessions include lecture, interactive discussion, assignments, and guided exercises, plus a viewing session to show the instructor and classmates your final project. There will also be a group Walker gallery visit (most likely on a Free Thursday evening). A digital or film camera and basic working knowledge is required; 35mm or medium formats are welcome. No smartphones, please. Tuition includes access to FilmNorth’s digital darkroom (Photoshop/Lightroom for Mac) during business hours between class sessions and FREE admission to Walker Cinema screenings of Independent Spirit Award-nominated films in January and February.
Tuition: $270 regular/$205 member/$155 low-income
